“Practical Approaches for unlocking supplier development and localization economic opportunities”
Industries face the challenge of meeting different levels of Localization required by public authorities and state governed companies when participating in public procurement tenders or for securing regulated licenses and permits. Localization is an important policy tool for industrial development and is viewed by regulators as a key instrument for assisting in growing economies and their local manufacturing sectors. The supply chain localization requirements and practices are often in conflict with some procurement and supply chain trends, leading to greater centralization of efforts and management. Over the years, many companies have implemented supplier development (SD) programs that focus on increased use and development of small and black owned suppliers. These companies have experienced varying degrees of success depending on the strength of their SD concepts and strategies that are linked or embedded into their procurement processes, business practices, and company values.
Many companies believe there is a strong business case for supplier inclusion and sustainable development, the SASDC would like to share a Supplier Development Implementation Framework and Process to enhance the ability of existing SD initiatives to drive capacity and value for company and black suppliers. The 2011 Preferential Procurement Regulations issues by National Treasury in terms of the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA) of 2000, have been repealed and replaced by the gazetted Preferential Procurement Regulations of 2017 (PPR Regulations 2017), which came into full force and effect on 1 April 2017. This implies that the procurement of goods and services by any state owned organization will be subject to the PPR Regulations (2017).

The purpose of this workshop is to support the optimization of company’s Enterprise & Supplier Development Impact and maximize your B-BBEE score in the context of Supplier Diversity. We also look at ways in which focus can be placed on accelerating Economic Growth and Competitiveness through Building Local Capacity, while addressing socio-economic imbalances that persist.
